SCC-80A MPPT Solar Charge Controller: Designing Around 80A Charging and 96V Batteries

Selection notes for the SCC-80A 80A MPPT solar charge controller, including configurable battery voltage, PV limits, communication and installation checks.

SCC compact enclosure family, supplier 80A sample, cooling fan view

The SCC-80A is an 80 A MPPT solar charge controller for larger battery-based solar installations. Its product information lists menu-configurable battery voltage settings from 12 V through 96 V DC, an LCD interface, current-limiting charging and a four-phase interleaved buck topology. This is a controller for PV-to-battery charging, not an AC inverter.

Start with the battery and array design

The 80 A rating is only one part of the selection. The SCC-80A product information lists 12 V, 24 V, 48 V, 60 V, 72 V and 96 V battery settings, so the installer must configure the menu for the actual battery bank and charging profile. The battery chemistry, BMS requirements and maximum allowable charging current should be confirmed before the controller is connected.

Do not size the PV array from the maximum label alone

The catalog lists 210 V DC solar input and 250 V DC maximum, but this is not a complete MPPT operating-range table. Check the array open-circuit voltage at the lowest design temperature, the series and parallel arrangement, allowable array power and the exact model documentation. A panel configuration that appears acceptable at room temperature can exceed the voltage limit in cold weather.

Features that matter in larger installations

  • 80 A rated charging current with a four-phase interleaved buck topology.
  • LCD operating data and configurable charging parameters.
  • Current-limiting charging mode and listed lithium-battery activation support.
  • External temperature-probe support, subject to the supplied accessory configuration.
  • Modbus, Bluetooth applet and BMS communication options listed, with protocol compatibility to be confirmed.

Communication features should not be assumed to work with every battery or monitoring platform. Confirm the physical interface, supported protocol, BMS requirements and included accessories for the exact order. Reverse-polarity, PV short-circuit, charging overcurrent and TVS surge protection are listed, but correctly sized external protection remains part of the system design.

Wholesale selection checklist

For a quotation, provide the SCC-80A model, PV module data, series and parallel arrangement, battery voltage and chemistry, BMS details, quantity and destination. Ask Gerixi to confirm the model-specific PV limits, communication interface, temperature probe, documentation, branding scope, lead time and warranty terms.
